About

Hello! My name is Juan Carlos Narvaez, I am an American flutist studying abroad in Madrid, Spain for my master's degree in Music Performance.

I graduated from West Virginia University in 2022 with a degree in Music Performance specializing in the flute. I have studied, played and taught music ranging from the Renaissance period to Contemporary Music.

I love studying the flute, chamber music, performing and teaching and I hope to spread that love by guiding my students to play the flute in their own unique ways. I am also passionate about teaching Spanish as I am a native Spanish speaker.

I have competed in several music competitions including the National Fischoff Competition where I was a quarter-finalist, winning first place in the International Music Grand Prix New York Semi-Finals as well as earning a semi-finalist spot in the International Fulbright Open Research Grant.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is all about the student, I like to learn what the student is most receptive to in their learning style. It is most important to focus on the fine-tuning of the body when playing and instrument.

I supplement my teaching with listening and body-awareness exercises.
