Julia McLean

I am a Juilliard trained violist and violinist, and I teach in order to share my love of music with as many people as I can! I teach music lessons and perform as an assistant solo viola in the Opera Orchestra National Montpellier in France. I teach a studio of students ranging from complete beginners to pre-professionals. I specialize in Suzuki inspired teaching, ear training, audition prep, and much more. Whether you or your child is a complete beginner, returning to the instrument, or looking to take your playing to the next level, I would be thrilled to work with you!

I strive to pass my knowledge along to my students, from basic technique to advanced musical concepts. I have experience teaching privately, providing practice help sessions, and in group classes and orchestra sectionals. I grew up learning through the Suzuki method, so I encourage learning by ear and emphasize the importance of efficient and organized practice. In a lesson with me, I would focus on learning classical violin/viola technique in order to produce the best warm and rich sound. I encourage the student to choose their repertoire based on their musical preferences, however I always encourage exploration of the classical genre! I teach with the goal of showing my students how to best improve on their own in their individual practice. A good ear, consistent technique, and beautiful, deep, unique violist musicality will all be my focus in my teaching style! I am also available for practice help sessions.
