About

Julian Blumenthaler redefines the sound of the violin. Trained in classical music from the age of five by Irina Goldstein, he quickly became captivated by improvisational music, driven by a desire to fuse the sound of the violin with jazz, hip-hop, and soul.

As a national prize winner of “Jugend musiziert,” he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich and the Gustav Mahler Private University Klagenfurt under Professor Maximilian Grosch. During his studies and travels to the USA, he participated in masterclasses with Ari Hoenig, Christian Howes, and Mauro Battisti, and further developed his musical skills with Vincent Herring, Takuya Kuroda, and Tivon Pennicott.

As part of the jazz-hip-hop collective FergexFisherman & Nujakasha, he regularly performs concerts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. In 2020, he founded the “Julian Blumenthaler Quartet.” Through this project, he received the Bavarian State Scholarship “Young Art and New Paths” and the “Pop Scholarship” from the Federal Association of Popular Music. He also collaborates with the brand “YAMAHA” as an official “YAMAHA Artist.”

In addition to his jazz career, Julian Blumenthaler shares his musical expertise as an educator. As a workshop leader in improvisation, he has worked for the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich, among others. He also collaborates with artists in dance and theater for various productions supported by the “National Performance Network Germany,” showcased at venues such as “brut” in Vienna and “Tafelhalle” in Nuremberg.

Teaching Style

As a passionate violin teacher, I have 20 years of experience as a classical violinist and have spent the last 8 years exploring my love for jazz. My musical journey has taken me through renowned institutions in Munich, Klagenfurt, and New York, where I not only honed my technical skills but also embraced various musical styles.

I play in diverse bands and regularly tour throughout Germany, where I experience and share the richness of live music. My work has been recognized with several scholarships, allowing me to share my knowledge and passion in workshops at universities, schools, theaters, and similar institutions.

With a degree in music education, I particularly enjoy working with young people and children. My focus is on developing listening skills and cultivating a personal musical language, helping my students express their creativity and individuality. In my teaching, both technical proficiency and the joy of making music take center stage.
