About

My name is Kalena Pawlitschek, I was born and raised in Fargo ND and have always had a passion for music. It all started when I was prekindergarten in the choir at my church. Ever since then, I have always been involved in music in some form. Once I got into middle school, I started learning clarinet and fell in love with it. I have considered clarinet my main instrument ever since then and have accomplished many goals in my music careers as a clarinetist. I was selected to be in the all state orchestra for three years in high school, a couple of those times being the first chair. When I was a junior in high school I traveled to Texas as I was selected to be a member of the National Honors Ensembles as a clarinetist in the band. I then pursued my degree in Instrumental Music Education from Concordia College in Moorhead MN. I graduated in 2021 and started my career as a 5-12 band director for two years in Wisconsin. Since then I have moved back to Fargo to be closer to my family, and have worked at a school as a paraprofessional where I was also able to teach some music lessons, summer school music classes, and a couple music classes during the school year. I would love to expand my studio of students to teach privately as it is something I am very passionate about.

Teaching Style

I have been told that I am a very good teacher and many people admire the way I work with and develop students skills. I am a very kind, compassionate, organized, detail oriented, and student-centered teacher. I am very flexible, however I know how to work hard and hold standards for my students. I enjoy getting to know my students so that I can individualize their lessons to their needs the best that I am able to. I am a very hard worker, and always put 120 percent into anything that I do. I also love to have fun and use humor in my teachings, I always find different ways to make my lessons fun and engaging.

Curriculum

I am very flexible with my lessons and can accommodate to many different things. Some method books that I have used in the past are Standard of Excellence, Essential Elements for band, Big Band Jazz Book, etc. If you have something that you are interested in or want to learn I am open to teaching it. For example, if a student is tired of the same music they play in band and want to know more about Jazz music, we could work on that. If a student loves pop music and has a book they want to bring to practice some of that style I would be okay with that. However, I will require that they have at least one method book for their instrument to practice the basics, warm up, etc.
