About

Kane Getsug is a classical guitarist, composer, and dedicated teacher with over a decade of experience in music. Trained at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, he brings a deep knowledge of performance, interpretation, and composition to every lesson. His teaching approach blends structure with creativity, helping students build strong technique while also developing their own musical voice.

Kane has taught students of all ages and skill levels, led guitar ensembles, and performed his own compositions alongside classical repertoire. He specializes in making complex concepts approachable, whether guiding beginners through their first notes or working with advanced players on interpretation, phrasing, and artistry.

Students can expect a supportive and engaging learning environment tailored to their goals—whether preparing for performances, exploring classical guitar repertoire, or discovering the joy of making music.

Teaching Style

Guitar lessons are centered around the student’s goals—whether building confidence as a beginner, refining advanced repertoire, or exploring personal expression through fingerstyle or classical playing. Instruction balances clear technical development with musical creativity, offering practical tools for progress and meaningful engagement with the instrument.

Curriculum

I tailor my method to whatever you want to learn. The best way to get started with classical guitar would be the Christopher Parkening books.

I would also highly recommend Ricardo iznaola Kitharologus the path to virtuosity for technique.

Certificate of higher education and classical guitar performance from the Royal Conservatory of Scotland 2022

Peabody Intern at Fretfest

I am a classical guitarist, composer, and teacher with over a decade of experience in music performance and education. I earned my Certificate of Higher Education in Guitar Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2022, where I focused on both solo and ensemble playing. While studying there, I composed and presented Monomyth. My portfolio also includes Stitched, a guitar composition that develops lyrical counterpoint in a style inspired by modern piano writing. In addition to composing, I recorded my album Piano on Guitar, which features my interpretations of works by Philip Glass and Claude Debussy, highlighting my passion for bringing piano repertoire into the guitar tradition.

As a performer, I have been active in a variety of settings, from local concerts in Maryland to ensemble performances of my own compositions. I also gained experience performing with my band, where I developed the ability to collaborate creatively and adapt classical technique to different musical contexts. My performance work includes presenting original pieces that combine structured composition with improvisation, allowing me to create music that is both formally engaging and spontaneous.

Alongside performing, I have been teaching guitar for over three years. From 2022 to 2024, I taught at the International School of Music, working with students of different ages and skill levels. Before that, I taught at Music & Arts, where I provided private instruction and helped students develop foundational guitar skills. My teaching has included private lessons, small group instruction, and leading a guitar ensemble, which I especially enjoyed for the collaborative creativity it fostered. I strive to create a student-centered learning environment, where lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, whether they are pursuing classical guitar, learning popular repertoire, or developing composition skills.
