About
Hello my name is Kay White. If you desire to develop and improve upon your vocal skills, you've come to the right place! I have over 15+ years of experience providing students of all vocal experience levels with voice lessons. I hold a degree of Music from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. From there, I went on to serve as a choral music director and continue providing voice lessons to students. I am a classically trained vocalist, however, providing proper vocal technique and pedagogy to meet the vocal needs of all students at various levels is of my upmost priority. Whether you are gearing up for a performance or simply want to become a better vocalist, I am here to help you! Let's get to singing!
Teaching Style
My overall goal is to help one reach their desired vocal success whether it be to improve technique or preparation for performance. Lessons are open to all voice types and levels of training. I have a solid foundation in vocal pedagogy and can teach individual singers how to develop proper technique. I understand that every singer is different and may required alternative methodology to achieving one's goal. Although classically trained, I am proficient in teaching many genres including Classical, Pop, R&B, and Musical Theatre.
Curriculum
Voice Lessons will include the following:
1. Development of proper breathing techniques
2. Demonstrate proper breathing techniques utilizing vocal warm-ups.
3. Expounding upon technique and vocal eases with student's repertoire
4. Perfecting repertoire while working on pitch, dynamics, articulation, build range, and breath support.
Credentials & Affiliations
During my tenure as a concert vocalist Moores School of Music., I participated in several performances in the Moores School of Music Opera House including notable works such as, Porgy & Bess (2008), Verdi's Requiem (2009), and Beethoven's Fifth Symphony(2010) which took place at the Brockman Hall of Opera at Rice University. Additional performances include Star Wars "May the Fourth Be With You" Concert Moores School of Music Select Vocalist performed at the Toyota Center (May 2011). I Obtained my Degree from Moores School of Music on December 12, 2012. Post graduation, I continued serving as a voice teacher at the DDC School of Music from August 2010-August2014 as well as Soprano Cantar Vocalist for St. Marks Methodist Church from Septermber 2012-2014. Synchronously, I begin my school teaching career with Pasadena Independent School District in Dec 2013-May 2022. I taught at Queens Intermediate (2013-2016) and Nelda Sullivan Middle School (August 2016-2018) serving as a English teacher and vocal coach at South Houston High School (2016-2022) and transitioned fully to teaching Music exclusively at Milstead Middle School as a choral director from 2018-2022. My choirs went on to complete several Festival Benchmarks at South Houston High School and were grant recipients Winners both in 2019 and 2020.
In addition to teaching Choir for several years, I also have taught English. Reading & Writing for several years for Pasadena Independent School District. I obtained my initial teaching certification for English Language Arts in the summer of 2014 utilizing it the fall of 2014-17. In 2015, I obtained English as a Second Language certification 2015 as an initiative to better meet the needs of English Language Learners. Lastly I obtained my Core Subjects Certication as a supplemental certification to my Music degree in order to serve tenure with the district as a choral director. I have since retired from classroom teaching to exclusively teaching Voice and English, Reading, and Writing lessons.
