About
Welcome! I am a flute-playing professional with experience in a wide range of musical styles: everything from Bach to Brubeck to The Beatles! My classical training began in Rochester, New York; where I pursued musical studies with Eastman School of Music faculty and members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. After moving to Boston, Massachusetts I expanded my interests into jazz and improvisational music. I have had extensive study in both classical and jazz styles with noted instructors at the highly regarded New England Conservatory.
Over the course of the last three decades, I have enjoyed an active career as a performing and gigging musician! I have played flute and piccolo with regional orchestras and ensembles in the New England (USA) area and frequently perform for a variety of cultural, educational and social events. Many of these engagements have been with my husband & partner who is a highly skilled guitarist and composer.
During this time I have also been teaching flute to all levels of students, and nothing gives me more pleasure and satisfaction than sharing my passion for music! I have participated in numerous public and private school instrumental music programs over the years. I also maintain a thriving teaching studio at my home in historic Concord, Massachusetts.
Teaching Style
The study of music is process of discovery that offers personal growth on many levels, and results in an appreciation of the beauty and elegance of the language of music. I endeavor to meet the student where they are, tailoring my teaching style to their needs and interests. Having said that, I'm convinced that the ability to experience freedom and creativity as an instrumentalist depends on the mastery of fundamental skills.
Understanding HOW to practice is also of the essence, and has been an area of interest and study for me that I pass along to my students. This knowledge imparts benefits in many different areas of life and brings about a learning experience that extends beyond the specifics of musical study.
I relish going on this journey with my students through which I learn from them as much as they learn from me!
