About
With over 28 years of experience as a piano and voice teacher, Laura Hackett is passionate about sharing the joy of music with students of all ages and skill levels. Holding a bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Laura brings a wealth of expertise and dedication to her teaching.
For over 26 years, Laura has owned and operated her own thriving music studio, where she has taught nearly 40 students a week. She also has organized twice-yearly recitals, providing her students with the opportunity to showcase their progress and build confidence in their musical abilities.
Laura’s extensive teaching experience includes her current role as a music teacher at Midlothian Private School in Midlothian, Texas. She has also taught homeschooling guitar classes and directed a homeschool choir for the Family Education Days homeschool group. Additionally, she served as the music director, vocalist, and pianist at the Ecumenical Center at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and taught middle and high school choir and general music at Menomonie High School in Menomonie, WI.
In her career, Laura has also made meaningful contributions to music therapy. She worked with special needs students in District 196 of Minnesota and provided music therapy to residents in numerous nursing homes, using music as a powerful tool to bring joy, connection, and healing to those in need.
As a performer, Laura has participated in three European choral tours, one of which featured her as a soloist. She has also contributed her expertise as an adjudicator for district solo and ensemble festivals in Wisconsin. Currently, Laura plays keyboard for her church, continuing to share her musical gifts with her community.
Laura views music as a form of therapy and tailors her lessons to the unique pace and needs of each student, creating an encouraging, fun, and rewarding environment. She is especially passionate about working with children and retired individuals, helping them unlock their musical potential and develop a lifelong appreciation for music. Known for her sense of humor and commitment to excellence, Laura strives to inspire her students to enjoy music for themselves.
Outside of teaching, Laura has been happily married for 27 years and is the proud mother of two children. She lives in the Dallas area with her family and two beloved dogs, embracing her life’s passion for music and education every day
Teaching Style

Curriculum
In my piano lessons, I use the Piano Adventures curriculum by Faber and Faber as the foundational teaching material. This comprehensive series is structured with four books at each level: Lesson, Technique, Theory, and Performance. Together, these books provide a well-rounded approach to learning, focusing on essential skills like note reading, technique, musical understanding, and artistic expression.
The series is tailored to meet the needs of learners across all age groups and stages: preschoolers, elementary students, middle and high school students, and adult learners. Each set is specifically designed to match the developmental stage of the student, ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience.
