About

Remember that video you saw on the Today Show, ABC World News Tonight, Ellentube, and Classic.FM of the toddler hugging the violinist playing Can't Help Falling in Love? Yep, that was me!Ā šŸ˜„Ā šŸŽ»

I'm Laura, a professional working violinist in New York City, and I can't wait to be your teacher! I have a deep passion for helping both children and adults who want to fulfill their dream of learning - or coming back to - violin.

After training for two decades with some of the best violinists in the nation - each of whomĀ served as concertmasters of major symphony and chamber orchestras - I reassessed my relationship with musicĀ and expanded my career and training to include a broad variety of genres from baroque, to pop and rock, to the new frontier of electric violin. Going viral was an accident; what wasn't was the collaborations with award-winning singer-songwriters, features on dozens of studio sessions at some of the most famous recording studios in New York, performances across the nation on tours and special appearances, and a deep love for what I do not only as an instrumentalist, but as someone who sees the value violin gives to people's lives far beyond the traditionalĀ markers of success.

Teaching Style

I can accommodate any adult, teen, or childĀ students struggling with anxiety, stress, attention disorders, shyness, and mobility limitations.

After over 15 years of teaching, I've repeatedly found thatĀ with the right approach, learning this instrument is about so much more than playing music. In our lessons, I'll help develop a path with you or your child based on individualĀ needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Studying violin can be a toolĀ to help combat dementia and promoteĀ neuroplasticity, toĀ expand jointĀ mobility andĀ improve posture, to assist in the management and impact of attention and anxiety disorders, and to learn how to slow down and build self-esteem.

I'm interested in a warm, personal approach - but that doesn't mean I won't push you when you need it! I've never met a student who didn't have infinite potential and ability. You can do this!

Credentials & Affiliations

I’m a multi-genre violinist with over 15Ā years of experience teachingĀ students of all ages and levels. I trained in classical violin for 20 years under the instruction of Michael Rosenbloom (CM Boston Ballet Orchestra Emeritus, Boston Pops), Linda Kistler (Pennsylvania Sinfonia, Allentown Symphony, Bach Festival Orchestra), and Jane Starkman (Handel and Haydn Society, Boston University, Wellesley College). I’ve been featured on the Today Show, ABC World News Tonight with David Muir, EllenTube, and regularly on Classic.FM!Ā

I travel the nation as a professional performing violinist and fiddler, and I frequently work in and arrange for theater. I play as part of a classical chamber music duo alongsideĀ cellist Violet Wang, with our debut recital featured in the Top 25 Things to Do In New York that week in TimeOut.

As a session violinist in the recording studio, I often collaborate with award-winning indie artist Belle Shea, whose single ā€œCheyenneā€ features my own solo improvisations. Other artists I’ve regularly collaborated with include Laura Mock, Riley Burke, MALINDA, and producer Jason Sill.
