Lauren Bedore

Hello! I'm so glad you have stopped by for a visit on my profile! :)

My name is Lauren. I grew up singing alongside my guitar player Father. This expanded into continued study with voice teachers, involvement in choir, my own songwriting, and studying music in college. I graduated from Vanguard University of Southern California with a B.A. in Music, studying voice as my instrument.

This is where I took my first vocal pedagogy class and, although I didn't originally plan to teach, when I taught my first trial student as an assignment for that course, I quickly realized that loved developing a supportive, nurturing, fun, and creative environment with students 1-on-1 and decided to continue. I have been so grateful that teaching found me and have been working with students since (2018). 

Alongside singing, I also teach some piano, theory, and songwriting, depending on the student's goals and interests.

Since teaching privately in-person and online since 2018, I have completed Section I of Somatic Voicework training and plan to continue to Sections II and III. I have also written, recorded, and released music of my own (under Lauren Bedore wherever you listen to music), the most recent work being an EP titled "Make Friends." 

I like to take a flexible approach so I can tailor each lesson (exercises, songs studied, concepts taught) to what each student is looking to grow into and explore. Once I learn this, I create a structure that consists of: 1) some kind of exercises pertaining to healthy vocal technique, 2) an exercise in musicianship based on student interest (ear training, reading music, studying lyrics, etc.), and 3) collaboration in building a repertoire or focus on songwriting.

While I have read books and studied the voice, I don't follow a specific book for every student. I may recommend books or go through portions of various texts depending on topics that students enjoy.
