About

My name is Leonard Lehmann, I'm 35 years old and originally from Berlin. I now live in Hungary. I mainly work as a composer for neoclassical piano music. Since 2019 I have been releasing my first compositions on all major streaming platforms, such as "Spotify" and "Apple Music" under my main artist name Leonard Lehmann. I've been giving private piano lessons as a teacher since 2011. I can teach you either in English or German. I've been playing the piano since I was seven years old. I studied classical piano for 13 years at a Béla Bartók music school in Berlin-Pankow. Even back then, I felt a strong urge to explore the instrument freely. By the age of ten, I was already performing my own compositions at concerts. Since reading sheet music didn’t come easily to me, I began to dive deeper into the "nature" of chords — their emotional core and feel. The world of harmony still fascinates me to this day, and it's exactly that, what I'm trying to convey as a teacher. Today, I truly feel called to this work. My greatest joy is seeing my students express themselves and their own music through the piano. Back then I consiously  decided not to study at the University, instead I did study for myself ever since I can imagine until to this day. I have played at numerous gigs in different formations , in and outside of Berlin but I also played on musical festivals for example with Toni Haupt & Band at "Fusion Festival 2010" on a stage called "Dubstation". I have also played with Toni in several clubs in Berlin, such as former "MAGDALENA" but also at "Sisyphos" on a floor called "Scheune". With Toni Haupt I also played an amazing concert at "Konzerthaus Dortmund" in 2018 at a venue called "Groove Symphony" where we were performing together with the Philharmonic Orchestra from Dortmund. I have recently played a solo concert for the internationally recognised event series called "Piano Day", more specifically the concert took place at "MOMkult" in Budapest. I have also played several times at "Szimpla Kert" on "Ambient Mondays" at a venue called "Le Salon De Marc".

Teaching Style

My personal goal is to help you develop a positive relationship with the instrument right from the very beginning. To support this, I offer useful tools such as personalized practice videos and availability via WhatsApp or Messenger for any piano- or music-related questions. Some of my students are already composing their own music, and it brings me great joy to support them in playing more freely and expressively at the piano. You can find my music on all major platforms under the name above. Or find me on Instagram @leonardlehmann.piano

Here are some of the methods I use in my lessons:

  • Ear training

  • Basic music theory, including scales, chords, and harmony

  • All theoretical concepts are explained in a practical and understandable way directly at the piano

  • Improvisation techniques

  • Composition techniques

  • Teaching the emotional feel of chords and chord progressions

  • Creating "harmony games" and personalized practice videos for each student

For smooth online lessons, it's ideal if you have at least the following:

  • A computer or laptop with a built-in microphone

  • Even better: an audio interface with an external microphone

  • A webcam positioned above the keyboard so I can see your hands while you play

  • Zoom for communication

If you need help setting things up, I’m happy to assist you.

Curriculum

David:

Leonard is a professional really friendly human being. We had nice sessions , he was really listening what do i really need and tried to find the best way to teach me. Highly recommend his art and work.

Luke:

I really enjoyed the months I spent taking lessons from Leonard. He was just the kind of piano teacher I was looking for: adaptable, goals-oriented, and able to introduce me to new concepts in a way that was easy to grasp. I expressed to Leonard that I wanted to learn how to play popular songs, to improve my understanding of basic music theory, and be able to perform for friends and audiences fluently. He was very willing to adapt to my needs and craft our lessons around them. Many of the things that he taught me opened up new insights and methods of learning I had not considered before. I had long played the piano for fun with little formal training. Leonard brought my understanding of the piano to a new level. He gave me tools to continue growing after my return home to the United States. I appreciate that he asked about my goals and encouraged me to make progress toward them. This sort of external motivation can be incredibly helpful in making progress. On top of that, Leonard is a very friendly, calm, and personable guy. In every lesson I attended, he brought a good, positive attitude that put me at ease and made me eager to learn. I’m very glad that I happened to come across his poster at the cafe last year. I would recommend him to any friends in Budapest who want to improve their piano skills.

Noemi:

Leonard taught me piano for approximately a year, during which he was an adaptable and highly attentive teacher, adjusting to my needs at all times, helping me to understand harmonies amongst other things.I learned harmonies and the relationship between them with a great ease and he enabled me to start composing at a relatively early stage. I am forever grateful. Leo has my highest recommendation to anyone who would like to dive into the magical world of piano, harmonies and the enjoyment of being able to compose their own pieces.

Réka:

Leo teaches my 10 year-old-son, and he is an absolutely fabulous teacher. Kind, emphatetic, very creative and a great piano player himself. He really owns this instrument and feels his student, he has many ways to encourage my so to express himself and explore the piano. He develops very quickly and loves the lessons with Leo!

Mari:

Although I thought it would be very hard to learn piano as an adult, Leo really made it possible and fun. He adapted the lessons to my needs and goals, and I got to understand piano in a very practical and enjoyable way, being soon able to play notes of songs by myself which really motivated me throughout my learning. He is a very nice and attentive teacher, and his love for piano is contagious.
