Luis Araya
About
I trained in classical and electric guitar at the conservatory in Viña del Mar, Chile, and at the University of Valparaíso. I also spent 23 years immersed in Guitar Craft, a rigorous discipline of technique, presence and conscious practice from Robert Fripp.
I work with motivated beginners of all ages — teenagers, young adults, and adults who want to learn guitar the right way. Good posture, real technique from day one, and a calm and structured learning environment.
I teach in English, German and Spanish.
Teaching Style
I teach online via Zoom with screen sharing when needed. Lessons are structured but flexible — we always start with posture and right hand technique, then move into exercises, scales or pieces depending on the student's level and goals. I record short video summaries after each lesson so students have a clear reference for their practice during the week. Progress is gradual and solid — no rushing, no skipping fundamentals.
Curriculum
My recommendations are tailored to each student, but generally include:
• Arpeggio studies for both fingerpicking and plectrum technique — building right hand precision and fluidity
• Bach transcriptions for electric and classical guitar — an excellent bridge between discipline and musicality
• Solfège and note recognition — I encourage all students to develop basic note recognition skills from early on, as it opens the instrument completely
• Latin rhythms and patterns — for students interested in groove, feel and rhythmic independence
No specific books are required before the first lesson. Together we assess what materials suit each student best and work from there.
