Hello, my name is Machiel, I am from the Netherlands and I live in Madrid.
I've been a drum teacher for over 35 years. I graduated with honors at Musicians Institute in Hollywood California. I have always been very active as a professional drummer on stage in my home country The Netherlands, all over Europe and other continents.

Teaching Style
My teaching style is friendly, super patient and focused on the student. I am a well informed and know what it takes to help students on their journey to become better drummers.
Curriculum
I wrote two drum instruction books that I use as a lesson plan for all my students. It's been developed for over 30 years now and it proved to be a successful method for hundreds of students. The lesson material is build from the ground up and covers a wide range of essential styles and playing techniques.
Credentials & Affiliations
I graduated with honors at the Percussion Institute of Technology (PIT) at Musicians Institute in Hollywood California in 1989. I have been teaching drums ever since. Next to my teaching career, I have been very active on stage in Europe and other continents. I played with The Doug Duffey band around 1999/2000 and did many tours with him mostly in Switserland, but also Germany and The Netherlands. The gigs were quite varied. We would play at festivals, tv shows, private concerts and hotels, bars etc. I was the drummer with The Pasadena Dream Band for about 30 years. They had a hit single in the eighties with the song 'Zandvoort'. I played with Dutch female blues singer AJ Plug around 2016/2017 and played the drums on her album 'Chew Chew Chew'. I was also active for almost 10 years with The Grandpanick Sessieband. A twelve piece band that played a new repertoire every month. This means I learned to play an incredible amount of songs. I was also drummer and producer on their live album 'Don't stop' recorderd around 2008. There are many more activities that I was involved in as a live and recording drummer. I was bandleader for many years of my own band 'Pasadena Soul Society'. Later named Dancetrax. This was a commercial band consisting of professional musicians only and we played in the wedding circuit but also we played for most of the bigger companies like Shell, ABN or IKEA for example. Ofcourse in the meantime I had my own drum lessons business (Drumschool Verhaar) in The Netherlands, teaching hundreds of students through the years. Some of them even made it to a professional level of which I'm very proud of course.
