About
I am a harpist and a scientist. At Brigham Young University, I minored in music, emphasizing in harp, while earning a geology degree. Formal training in harp at BYU gave me footing in the basics of harp, complimenting my analytical bent on music. I love combining these foundations and analytical sense with my love of harp and music.
I have been playing harp for over 10 years and have been teaching for 5 years. Having begun playing as an adult, I am acutely aware of the challenges of beginning a new instrument, as well as the sense of fulfillment of playing a piece you personally love. Accordingly, I work to understand my students own experience and help them overcome challenges they encounter. I can work with each student to find music based on what they are interested in. I teach both pedal and lever harp. For students in Utah, I have lever harps available for rent so you can try it out before buying your own harp.
Becoming a harpist is a dream come true for me, and I am excited to help your dream come true, so book your first lesson with me today!
Teaching Style
I welcome adults and children who are new to the harp or who want to increase their skills. As a teacher, I focus on helping students be able to play the music that is interesting or fun for them. I will start with a firm background on the basics of hand position and reading music, and then we can take it away with what thrills you, whether it is pop, folk, classical, religious, or something else. I hope we can take this journey in music together!
