Mario A. Campanaro
About
I am a professional acting teacher and coach with over 26 years of experience mentoring performers of all levels. I began acting at age eight and trained classically under legendary acting teacher and director Gerald Freedman, as well as other distinguished mentors at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where I earned a BFA in Acting and Drama.
My professional acting career spans Broadway (including Mary Zimmerman’s Tony Award–winning Metamorphoses), Off-Broadway, film, television, commercials, print, and voiceovers. I have personally taught and coached both emerging and award-winning artists, influencing careers across blockbuster films, acclaimed TV series, Broadway and West End productions, and internationally recognized theatre companies.
My teaching integrates a multi-method approach based on Stanislavski, Adler, Hagen, Strasberg, Meisner, Chekhov, and Alexander. Actors develop a practical, personalized process that cultivates instinct, emotional truth, and a deep connection to the given circumstances of the text. I help actors build a toolbox to explore instinct and impulse, enabling fully realized, truthful performances.
My areas of focus include craft cultivation, acting technique, scene study, script analysis, character breakdown and development, emotional preparation, active listening and impulse, audition and self-tape preparation, voice and speech, green screen, artist life coaching, business for actors, directing, playwriting, public speaking, and mask work (neutral, character, and half-mask).
I teach in one-on-one and ensemble settings, both online and in-person, for students of all ages and levels. I also lead the Master Class at MC² Actors Studio in Los Angeles, New York, and London, and have received extensive five-star reviews from industry professionals across multiple platforms and publications.
As a director, playwright, and founder of MC² Actors Studio and MC² Repertory Theatre Company, I focus on nurturing confidence, authenticity, risk-taking, and artistic excellence. My mission is to empower actors to unlock their full potential, refine their craft, and bring depth, truth, and emotional resonance to every performance.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is passionate, personal, and transformative while honoring the realities of what the world of this industry demands. I believe there is no single way to “get there,” but there is always a way—and for each actor, that way must resonate with their heart and soul because they are the instrument that brings life to the written page. This allows them to create truthful, authentic, vulnerable, and dynamic work that brings out their talent and humanity while honoring the given circumstances of any project. I use a holistic, multi-method approach that helps actors discover which tools and creative processes work best for them individually. Private sessions and classes provide a safe, supportive environment where actors can take creative risks, explore deeply, embody their characters fully, and cultivate their own unique artistic voice. At the end of the day, there are two kinds of acting—convincing and not convincing—and my work helps actors consistently aim for the convincing.
Curriculum
I utilize a holistic, multi-method, and intuitive approach rooted in the techniques of the world’s most influential acting teachers. My method integrates Stanislavski, Adler, Hagen, Strasberg, Meisner, Chekhov, and the Alexander Technique to help actors build a personalized toolbox. I focus on the given circumstances of the material, emotional preparation and truth, active listening, and responsiveness to the moment—living fully in the gap of the present—while cultivating impulse and instinct. This approach empowers actors to explore their impulses, take creative risks, and embody fully realized, authentic performances. My training combines innate talent, instinct, impulse, skill, technique, and imagination with industry standards, freedom, and structured exercises paired with individualized guidance, all within a safe and supportive environment.
