Hello guys, my name is Mário and I'm a private teacher from Bratislava, Slovakia. I'm actively playing various instruments such as bass guitar, guitar, piano, ukulele, and mandolin in various bands (flamenco band Ponte Pardo, vocal ensemble Zborci, acoustic band Pathetic Hypermarket Band). I've completed my university studies in bass guitar and composition, so I'm also skilled enough to teach music theory and composition. I've been working as a teacher since 2001.
Teaching Style
As a teacher, my basic philosophy is to find subjects my students would be interested in, so my first question is always what do you like, what kind of music are you listening to, what are your favorite songs or pieces... My personal experience is that when my students are working on a piece they truly like, they are proceeding much quicker and we can adapt scale, technique, and theory studies to that particular song or piece. Sometimes students have no preferences about our study materials, and then it's my job to choose the right book or song to deal with. But the most important thing is to have good study atmosphere during our lessons and the feeling that we are doing something meaningful together.
Curriculum
I would call my teaching method "responsive". I use to prepare for every lesson in detail but if I see that something starts to be boring or not as interesting, that I'm loosing my student's interest or attention, I can change the schedule of a lesson or suggest something else or just discuss what we would like to learn or to do. I have plenty of books about every instrument I teach but if that's not enough we can always check some YouTube videos or websites with the scores and find something new. There is number of resources available so we can use anything we find.
Credentials & Affiliations
I completed my bachelor bass guitar studies at Ján Albrecht music and art academy Banská Štiavnica in 2016 and my master degree composition studies at the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava in 2023. Between 2001 and 2006 I was working as a guitar and bass guitar teacher for Musicana, a private musical academy in Bratislava. In 2016 and 2017 I was working as a bass guitar teacher in the Private Conservatory of Dezider Kardoš in Topoľčany, Slovakia. Since 2024, I've bee working as a guitar teacher in Art Pegas, en elementary music school in Bratislava. During all these years, I was also giving private music lessons.
