Matheus Lucena
About
Hi, I’m Matheus, a 29-year-old musician and producer from Brazil, currently based in Barcelona. I grew up in Brazil, where I graduated from Bituca – University of Popular Music (Bituca - Universidade de Música Popular) with a degree in Guitar, studying under Latin Grammy winner Gilvan de Oliveira. I furthered my music studies at UFMG, one of Brazil's major universities, before moving to Barcelona.
Here, with my best friend, I formed the duo DOCUS, which has been a significant leap in my career. As part of DOCUS, I work as a songwriter and producer, and we perform and tour across Europe. We are currently working on our second album; our first, "Infinite," is available on all major streaming platforms. We've also had the honor of opening for Maná at iconic venues like Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona and the Wizink Center in Madrid.
Teaching music is a passion for me. I love getting to know new people, discovering and learning new music and cultures. Before moving to Europe, I spent two years teaching guitar to groups of teenagers in public schools within vulnerable communities in Brazil. This experience helped me develop a teaching method that is accessible to everyone. Watching the joy and gratitude of my students as they learned to play and as we made music together was incredibly inspiring and rewarding.
In Brazil, music is a very important communal experience. It feels like almost everyone knows how to play a bit, and everyone loves to sing (even if terribly badly!). It's common for friends and family to often gather anywhere to play, sing, and have fun together. This spirit of integration and shared happiness is what I believe to be the most important role of music in society. It’s about much more than just performing; it’s about bringing people together.

I'm Matheus, a musician, producer, and guitar teacher with 11 years of experience helping players like you. I specialize in guiding beginner and intermediate students on both electric and acoustic guitar. While my personal passions lean towards fingerpicking, folk, and Neo Soul (I love artists like Gregory Alan Isakov, Mateus Asato, and John Mayer), I enjoy exploring and can effectively teach a wide variety of musical styles to match your unique tastes and goals.
I believe that real progress happens with consistent, effective practice between lessons. But honestly, knowing exactly what to practice, how to practice it correctly, and staying motivated can be the tough. Here’s how we’ll overcome that problem and ensure you make steady progress:
1. Weekly Lessons: We'll have a one-hour online lesson each week. This is our dedicated time to work on your playing, and for me to understand your musical goals, your favorite songs and styles, any specific difficulties you're encountering, and the amount of time you realistically have for practice.
2. Your Custom-Built Practice Plan: Based on what we cover in our lesson, I then personally create and organize your Personalized Practice Hub for the week.
3. Guided Daily Practice Through the Hub: Think of the Practice Hub as your private online portal, accessible anytime. This is where I upload custom video lessons and resources created specifically for you – I'm guiding your practice session by session. You’ll simply follow these videos and materials, which are prepared for your current focus, to ensure you're practicing effectively every day.
Here's what your Personalized Practice Hub (updated weekly) will typically include:
- Step-by-step video breakdowns I record, covering the songs you want to learn, essential techniques, music theory, or your specific playing goals.
- Custom play-along videos I create, so you can practice correctly, stay in time, and make your sessions more engaging.
- Interactive tabs and notation, perfectly synced with the exercises and video demonstrations.
- Powerful practice tools like section looping and adjustable playback speed to help you master tricky parts.
This isn't just a one-hour lesson, it's a complete learning system. It’s your clear roadmap, ensuring you practice effectively and efficiently every day, helping you build skills faster and with more confidence.
So, when do we start?
