Matthew Cook

Heartfelt, melancholy, exuberant and aggressive contribute to the all-around uniqueness of New Jersey based indie/alternative singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Matt Cook.

Since 2005 and the release of his folk-rock debut record Coast to Coast, Cook has continued to solidify a body of work that includes five full-length albums, most recently 2020’s #AlbumNumber5Sessions which included a string of strong singles in 2019 and 2020, garnering streams in the hundreds of thousands on digital platforms like Spotify, drawing influence from an array of artists from Brian Wilson to Ben Folds. 

Formerly of Orange County, California, balancing performing professionally while studying English and Music at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, Cook has been a staple of the Asbury Park, NJ music scene and most recently Camden, NJ, right across the bridge from Philadelphia.

In May 2019 Cook participated as a speaker and performer at the TEDx Asbury Park Conference inside the famous Paramount Theatre located at Convention Hall on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. Titled Live, Laugh, Love! after the title track of his 2013 sophomore record, Cook’s Ted Talk centered around turning his personal chaos battling depression and a life threatening diabetic coma into the beauty of his music and positively affecting others through his work.

Cook’s passion for music has also led him to working with children at schools and hospitals and leading fellow Christians as a worship leader and musician at several churches. He has been an advocate for multiple charities including The Pediatric Cancer Association and the diabetic charities JDRF and Beyond Type 1.

My teaching style has always been centered around my students goals and expectations. Whether preparing for school performances, focusing on technique, or learning how to play their favorite artist's songs, my method has always been to adapt to what my student would like to accomplish most of all.
