Matthew Hamel
About
Matt, the owner of Whammo Music Studios, has been studying and playing music for more than 30 years including more than 20 years as a professional bassist. He majored in bass guitar and music composition at Berklee College of Music and has played for Carnival Cruise Lines, The Boulder Dinner Theater, and The Jessie Cotton Stone Blues Band.
He studied bass under Anthony Vitti, who played for Carmine Appice, George Burns, Sammy Davis Jr., the Drifters, Joe Franco, Liberace, Rita Moreno, the original Platters, Steve Smith, and more. He also studied composition under Richard Davis, whose Film/television credits include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, The Last Boy Scout, The Fall Guy, and others.
Teaching Style
We discuss the student's preferred learning style, previous experience, and future goals. Then I create customized, engaging, flexible lessons designed to help the student achieve those goals.
Curriculum
All lessons are personalized to meet the student's ability and musical goals. I provide all lesson material, so there's no need to buy a book. If the student has a specific playing or learning goal in mind, I will tailor the lesson to help the student achieve those goals. If the student isn't sure what they want to learn, I will provide general lessons that cover everything from the basics to advanced concepts.
