Mattia Turchetti
About
I’m a London-based sound designer, music producer, and tutor, specialising in electronic music, sound design, and audio production.
I hold a First-Class degree in Music and Sound Design from London South Bank University and an MMus in Sonic Arts from Goldsmiths, University of London. I work confidently with industry-standard tools including Ableton Live and Logic Pro, and I enjoy helping students feel comfortable and creative with professional audio software.
My professional experience spans film, video games, and music production, working with film directors and private clients to create immersive, story-driven sound. One of my recent projects, the short film Heavenly Rhymes, was selected for international festivals including the Viennale Film Festival, Beijing International Short Film Festival, and Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
Alongside sound design, I’m an active electronic music producer and DJ. I release techno under the alias M.F.S: Observatory and ambient music as Tia-Mellow, with music released on respected labels and collaborations with artists such as Maya Jane Coles. I also perform regularly as a DJ, which allows me to bring real-world performance experience into my lessons.
I’m the founder and manager of Observatory Music, a techno label, and I currently teach music production and audio at leading institutions in London. My teaching style is practical, supportive, and fully tailored to each student, focusing on real-world skills, creative development, and building confidence in the studio.
Teaching Style
My approach to teaching is relaxed, supportive, and practical. I adapt each lesson to your interests and pace, making sure concepts are easy to understand and immediately usable. I focus on helping you develop both technical skills and creative confidence, so you can enjoy the process while making real progress.
I’m here to guide you, not judge — whether you’re just starting out or pushing your sound to the next leve
Curriculum
My teaching method is student-centred and hands-on, with lessons tailored to your goals, level, and musical interests. Each session combines practical exercises, guided listening, and real-world examples drawn from professional studio and performance workflows.
We focus on:
-
Clear technical foundations
-
Creative problem-solving and experimentation
-
Efficient workflows using industry-standard tools
-
Applying concepts directly to your own music and projects
I encourage a supportive and relaxed learning environment, where questions are welcome and progress happens at a pace that feels motivating rather than overwhelming. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced producer, lessons are structured to help you gain confidence and independence.
