Hi there! My name is Maureen Walsh and I am a classical saxophone instructor. I attended Peabody Conservatory for 8 years (what can I say, I loved it there!) and I have a Bachelor's, Master's and Graduate Performance Diploma from there. I also spent a little time studying with Don Sinta, the former president of the Saxophone Congress. Since then I have been performing in the DC area with solo recitals, the Capital Wind Symphony and organizing student recitals. I have taught at the International School of music and currently teach at the Levine School of Music.

Super cool
Maureen is awesome. She is an amazing player and teacher. She was able to coax our son to play even when he was not in the mood and he learned a lot from her.
Maureen is truly the best instructor that I have encountered. She gives her all into her lessons and truly wants to see her students succeed. She has coached my son for several months and has been very pleasant while providing great feedback. You will not be disappointed if you select her as your coach. She is a great find on this site.
Maureen is a very patient and practical instructor. She knows her craft and she knows how to engage her students to get them to see the best in themselves.
My daughter has been playing for five years in school band. Today she had her thrird lessons with Maureen. She is very knowledgeable, and great at communicating with my daughter in a way that is encouraging. So far, we love the lessons.

Very thorough lesson & great personality and Miss Maureen is very nice.
This was our introduction. Maureen took the time to understand what I am interested in. She laid out a vision for how we would proceed with my training and provided. Me with materials to get up and running quickly. As a beginning player and an adult learner, I couldn’t be happier with her.
Maureen was a super great teacher. She was very patient, understanding, and forgiving, even when I made a lot of mistakes.
Maureen is wonderful! She is really patient and helpful with my daughter. Highly recommend!
Maureen was very committed to helping and making sure my daughter was comfortable with all of the material. She also is very happy to help with opportunities and confidence in general, Maureen has been great for my family and we look forward to more lessons with her.
Knowledgeable, professional and caring instructor.
My son who plays in high school honors band is taking alto sax lessons with Maureen for past few months. Maureen is an amazing teacher, very detail oriented focused. My son has learned advanced techniques and won few medals at state level with superior rating of 1. I would highly recommend Maureen, she is a fabulous saxophone teacher who is actively involved and renowned personality in music community with playing in many DC metro area concerts. My son enjoys every lesson and will be continuing to be her student in coming year.
We are on our third lesson. Great so far!! Maureen is a fantastic teacher.

Teaching Style
The one most important thing lessons teach is CONFIDENCE. Students who take lessons learn how to plan long term, how to follow through on a project without being forced to, and how to share something beautiful with the people they care about. With loving support, I help guide students through those times when they feel like they aren't good enough or "can't" do it. (We don't say "can't" in my studio!) Overcoming those really hard pieces gives students the confidence in their ability to tackle anything. Plus we have a lot of fun exploring exciting pieces!
Curriculum
I use Rubank (the blue book) as a way to establish a solid foundation of technique. We take our own pace through the book, as many or few exercises as works best for the student. Then we fill in our time with as many songs as possible, sometimes writing our own! I have two or three other books with all kinds of songs most kids will recognize, and that's what my students really want to play. Technique always supports beautiful music and we can't work on one without the other.
