Teaching Style
Hi! Merlyn Kelly here!
I tailor every lesson to each student’s personal goals. My approach is systematic and logical, focusing on your strengths while helping you steadily improve areas that need attention.
For beginners, I emphasize solid fundamentals—proper technique, posture, tone production, reading, music theory, and understanding the instrument—while also making sure you get to play songs you love so the process stays fun and motivating.
For adult learners who simply want to enjoy music, I keep the lessons relaxed and practical. You’ll learn exactly what you need to play confidently and reach your musical goals without getting bogged down in unnecessary details.
I also enjoy assigning “project pieces” that we choose together. These pieces gently push your technical ability and give you something you can be proud to play for friends, family, or even onstage. They’re a great way to apply everything you learn in a musical, enjoyable way.
My goal is always to help you grow, stay inspired, and truly enjoy making music.
Curriculum
I use my own worksheets and scores, as well as sheet music provided by the student or myself.
