Merritt James Gant gained prominence as the lead guitarist for Overkill, signed to Megaforce and Atlantic Records, from 1990 to 1995. This period marked the band's peak, releasing some of its most notable material and considered its best lineup.

Gant's expertise extends beyond heavy metal, encompassing multiple genres. His musical journey started early, ignited by a profound passion for music when he first picked up a guitar at the age of seven. Driven by dedication, he diligently mastered the instrument, studying harmony, theory, & technique under respected mentors.

In addition to his musical talent, Merritt is also a skilled luthier, customizing, repairing, and building instruments. After his tenure with Overkill, he transitioned to music education, leveraging his extensive knowledge and experience. He taught theory, audio engineering, and applied music at Rowan College South Jersey, nurturing aspiring musicians.

As the proprietor of Merritt's Music Service, Gant has mentored countless students across various ages and skill levels.
