About
With over 15 years of proven success in online music instruction, I specialize in helping students break through playing challenges, win competitive auditions, and earn full-ride scholarships to leading colleges. My teaching is personal, results-driven, and focused on long-term musical and personal growth - whether you're preparing for a major performance or building everyday confidence with your instrument.
I'm deeply committed to my students' success and find real joy in seeing them reach their goals, both big and small.
Teaching Style
I begin each lesson by having the student play a selection of their choice. This helps me understand their current level and musical voice. From there, we discuss what they’re looking to improve, along with their short-term and long-term goals.
Curriculum
My teaching method includes Clarks, Arban, Irons etc.
Early in our work together, I introduce what I call the “Big Three”:
Air, Aperture, and Embouchure — the core elements of sound production and trumpet health. Mastering these fundamentals provides a strong, lasting foundation that supports all aspects of trumpet playing.
Interestingly, beginning students often grasp these concepts more quickly than those with prior school or self-directed training, as they’re typically more open to building proper habits from the start. Whether you’re starting fresh or retraining with purpose, this method helps players unlock a fuller, healthier sound—and sets them up for long-term success.
With over 27 years of experience in teaching, performing, auditioning, and studio recording, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the concepts and techniques that have helped me achieve more than I ever imagined.
Recommended books
Arban, Clack technical Studies, Vincent Cichowicz's Flow Studies, Bill Adams daily routine, etc.
Credentials & Affiliations
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet Performance from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and have completed over 50 credit hours toward a Master’s in Trumpet Performance at New Mexico State University.
Private study has played a major role in shaping both my career and my teaching philosophy. I’ve had the privilege of learning from world-renowned artists, including Bobby Shew (international solo artist) and Don Tison (35-year principal trumpet of the Baltimore Symphony), among others. Their mentorship profoundly influenced my musicianship and my approach as an educator.
I've worked with some of the worlds greatest musicians including, Wayne Bergeron, Scotty Barnhart, Bob Mintzer, Chris Vadala, & The Temptations to name a few.
My goal is to pass on what I’ve learned—not just to help students play better, but to help them unlock their full potential as musicians and performers.
