About

Los Angeles–based composer and producer Monika Mia blends orchestral writing with electronic music, sound design, and hybrid production. After graduating from the USC Screen Scoring Program in 2022, she gained hands-on experience working as a music tech assistant on Teen Wolf: The Movie (Dino Meneghin) and Camp Snoopy Specials (Jeff Morrow). She also contributed additional orchestrations for Penka Kouneva on projects for Audio Network. Monika’s film work includes award-winning short and feature films that have screened at major festivals such as the Oscar-qualifying ZINEBI, Nashville, Cannes Focus WIP, HollyShorts, and Palm Springs ShortFest. She has also provided orchestrations for League of Legends: Wild Rift (Riot Games) and the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Express Adventure immersive experience. Her recent credits include Bird’s Eye View, a fantasy short starring Dakin Matthews (Desperate Housewives), featuring a score recorded by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra. Monika was selected for the Society of Composers & Lyricists Mentorship Program and The Chimaera Project’s Mentorship Scheme, where she received one-on-one guidance from a professional documentary filmmaker. In advertising and branded content, Monika has collaborated with Gucci, Tiffany & Co., and Puma. Her commercial work has appeared in projects recognized by the Berlin Fashion Film Festival. Across her projects, Monika combines classical training with modern production to create expressive, immersive musical worlds.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is structured, practical, and student-centered, with a strong focus on contemporary and media music—including film, TV, and game scoring—while grounding everything in solid classical music theory. I believe that a strong understanding of harmony, voice leading, form, and orchestration from a classical perspective gives students far more creative freedom in modern contexts. I also teach practical workflow and production skills, and can work with students in Logic Pro, Cubase, Pro Tools, as well as notation software including Sibelius and Dorico. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals, with an emphasis on clarity, real-world application, and developing musical intuition rather than rote memorization.
