Oliver Reeves
About
Oliver Reeves is a passionate and friendly drum tutor based in Leeds, with over 14 years of experience playing the drum kit, as well as tuned and auxiliary percussion.
Having graduated from Leeds Conservatoire in 2020 with a first-class BA (Hons) in Jazz and studied under Asaf Sirkis and Dave Walsh, Oliver is well-versed in a variety of musical genres and learning/teaching styles.
Oliver performs regularly throughout the North of England with a variety of artists (Saul Duff, Mojo Catfish) in numerous genres (contemporary jazz, soul, blues, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban) and has supported acclaimed artists such as Joel Frahm. He has performed at First Direct Arena, Dewsbury Blues Festival, Tyne Bar, and Brudenell Social Club just to name a few. He can be heard on London-based guitarist Rory Mann’s debut EP, The Way Out.
Teaching Style
As well as developing experience in a range of styles and genres, Oliver has a deep understanding of reading notation, attaining his Grade 8 Drums and Grade 5 Theory whilst in secondary school, and still applies this regularly by performing in musicals and composing music himself. He looks to tailor his teaching approach to the students, whether that be with a focus on certain styles or examinations. Oliver is happy to teach students that don’t read notation, want to read notation, or already do read notation.
