Olivia Fanjoy
About
Olivia Fanjoy is a passionate clarinetist and music education major at the University of Southern Maine, actively performing in a wide range of ensembles—from symphonic bands, chamber groups, and orchestras to pit orchestras for musicals and opera. I specialize in soprano, bass, and contrabass clarinet and love helping students of all ages discover their voice on their instrument.
As a visually impaired musician and educator, I'm especially committed to making music accessible, encouraging creativity, and helping every student build confidence through sound fundamentals and joyful exploration. Whether you're a total beginner, preparing for auditions, or diving into extended techniques, I meet you where you are and help you grow.
Let’s make some music together!
Teaching Style
My teaching style is warm, student-centered, and rooted in curiosity, creativity, and care. I believe every student has a unique musical voice, and my role is to help them discover and express it confidently. I balance strong technical foundations with imagination and exploration—blending methodical instruction with play, movement, imagery, and reflection.
As a performer and music educator, I approach each lesson with intentional structure but always stay flexible to the student’s needs that day, whether they need encouragement, challenge, support, or just joy in the music. I specialize in creating accessible, inclusive learning environments and have a deep passion for working with students with disabilities. I’m always eager to find creative solutions that make music learning meaningful and accessible for everyone.
I teach through a mix of demonstration, guided discovery, real-time feedback, and active listening. I often connect music to feelings, colors, or stories to deepen understanding and expression. My background in clarinet, bass clarinet, and contrabass clarinet lets me tailor techniques to each instrument and foster a well-rounded, resonant tone.
Above all, I want my students to feel empowered as musicians, thinkers, and humans—both in the practice room and beyond.
