About
Berklee Alumni & Expert Jazz Pianist | Jazz Harmony, Arranging & Improvisation Specialist
With over 20 years of experience as a professional pianist, arranger, and educator, I offer a comprehensive and deep approach to music education. As a Berklee College of Music graduate (Cum Laude) and former Headmaster of EMMAT, my career has been dedicated to mastering the art of Jazz and Classical piano, as well as the intricacies of modern harmony and arranging.
I have performed in prestigious venues like the Luis Angel Arango Concert Hall and worked as an orchestrator for film and television, including projects for Caracol TV (p. 4). My teaching method is grounded in the "Ultimate Improvisation Blueprint," a system I designed to help students master improvisation, jazz harmony levels 1-4, and reharmonization techniques (p. 1).
Teaching Style
Whether you are a beginner looking to understand the keyboard or an advanced musician seeking to master big band arranging or complex jazz voicings, my lessons are tailored to your goals. I focus on:
- Jazz piano: From foundational technique to advanced performance.
- Modern Harmony: Understanding the "why" behind the music.
- Arranging & Composition: From rhythm sections to full big band charts (p. 1).
- Improvisation: A step-by-step blueprint to find your own voice.
I am passionate about sharing the tools that allow musicians to express themselves with freedom and professional excellence. Let’s take your musical journey to the next level!
Curriculum
My teaching methodology is centered on the 'Ultimate Improvisation Blueprint,' a step-by-step system I developed to bridge the gap between music theory and creative improvisation. I believe in a balanced approach: developing a solid classical technique while mastering the 'why' behind modern harmony.
Lessons are tailored to the student's goals, whether it's mastering complex jazz voicings, understanding reharmonization, understanding how to create and speak musically in jazz improvisation or building a professional arranging portfolio from rhythm sections to big bands. We also focus on repertoire development, and the practical application of harmonic concepts.
