About

I’m Paula Prieto, a singer-songwriter with extensive experience in both performance and music education. My musical career blends influences from my Argentine roots with contemporary sounds, and I’ve had the privilege of performing and collaborating with a variety of musicians throughout my journey.

I studied at the Catholic University of Argentina, completing the Música Popular program, which allowed me to explore music deeply both from a creative and technical perspective. During my final year, I served as an assistant teacher for the "Música Argentina" course, where I helped students engage with the history and intricacies of Argentine music.

I’ve also gained valuable teaching experience at the Colorado Springs Conservatory, where I worked as an assistant teacher, and at the Seminario Teológico Bautista, where I taught guitar. In these roles, I guided students at various levels, helping them refine their technical skills while nurturing their unique creative voices.

With a focus on both technique and self-expression, I’m dedicated to helping students achieve their musical goals, whether it’s writing songs or mastering their instrument.

Teaching Style

My teaching style is centered around musicality and personal development, with the belief that true mastery comes from a deep understanding of both the music and the instrument. I prioritize musical expression and authenticity, ensuring that my students develop not only technical skills but also their unique musical voice.

In my lessons, technique and textbook knowledge are essential, but they are always balanced with a focus on musicality—how the music feels and communicates emotionally. I guide my students to understand why they play what they play, rather than just memorizing patterns or notes. This deeper understanding helps them connect more intimately with the music and enables them to express themselves more freely.

Whether it's through songwriting, guitar playing, or music theory, I encourage students to see their learning as a journey of personal growth, where creativity and technique evolve hand-in-hand. Each student’s individuality is celebrated, and I work with them to cultivate not just proficiency, but authentic musicianship that is true to their own style and musical goals.

Curriculum

My teaching method is built on the principle that true musicianship comes from a balanced approach that integrates understanding, technique, and musicality. I believe that to master an instrument or a piece of music, students must not only learn how to play but also understand the deeper concepts behind what they are doing.

In my lessons, we focus on the following:

  1. Foundation and Technique: We start by building a solid technical foundation, ensuring that you have the skills needed to play the music you love. This includes working on your instrument’s fundamentals and addressing any technical challenges that arise.

  2. Musical Understanding: As we progress, we move beyond rote memorization and focus on why and how the music works. Whether it’s understanding the structure of a song or learning music theory, I help you connect the dots between the music you hear and what you play.

  3. Musicality and Expression: Technique alone doesn’t make a musician. That’s why I place a strong emphasis on developing your unique musical voice. I encourage you to play with intention and emotion, not just with precision, helping you to make the music feel authentic and true to your style.

  4. Personal Growth and Creativity: I foster a creative environment where you feel free to explore new ideas, whether through songwriting, improvisation, or interpretation. This allows you to build confidence and find your own musical identity.

Throughout the learning process, my goal is to ensure you have a clear understanding of your instrument and the music you create, allowing you to play with confidence, authenticity, and passion.
