Philip Castro

Philip Castro has been performing as a classical and jazz pianist for over 20 years.  He began studying classical piano at the Classical Piano Academy with Iby Kovacs.  He completed his B.M. in piano performance from Texas State University as well as a M.M. in piano pedagogy and a Graduate Certificate in jazz performance from the University of South Carolina.  

His passion for performing is matched with a passion for teaching.  Philip has taught in private and charter schools grades K-12 as well as group piano at the university level.  He has maintained a private studio over the years made up of students of all ages and levels.  I look forward to helping you reach your musical goals!

As a music teacher I aim to inspire learning and musical growth.  It is my goal to develop in my students a comprehensive understanding of music that allows them to create, enjoy and share their music.  In my classes I aim to strike a balance between lecturing and allowing the students to explore and make discoveries.  I encourage students to explore the topics discussed in class not only with me but also with each other.  

I believe in a flexible atmosphere that is tailored to each individual student.  I understand and recognize that all students are unique and have varying strengths and weaknesses.  It is my goal as the teacher to help build on each students strength while improving their weaknesses. In the end, every student has the ability to grow their understanding of music and their ability to express themselves through music.
