Pierce Tang

I'm a professional drummer with almost 10 years of experience on this instrument. I attended Humber College's Bachelor of Music program and had the opportunity to learn from Larnell Lewis (worked with Snarky Puppy, Quincy Jones, Jacob Collier), Paul DeLong (worked with Kim Mitchell), Mark Kelso (worked with Herbie Hancock, Michael Buble, Chaka Khan), and many other great musicians.

I have several years of teaching experience, in settings such as a church (Wesley Chapel Church), high school (Bayview Secondary School), and private music schools (Tone Labs Music, Brilliance Music Academy, Wonder Music School). Most of my teaching experience is with young children (about 12 years old and younger) but I am comfortable teaching all ages! 

Of course, I'm not only a teacher but also a live performer. I have experience playing in corporate and showcase gigs. I've played in my high school concert band and also their jazz ensemble. I've played in a jazz combo setting, as well as also a jazz fusion group. Also, I have my own R&B band as a band leader.

Recently, I was living in Japan from May of 2023 until September 2023 and got to work with/perform with some famous musicians such as Sam Pomanti (worked with Ed Sheeran, Bazzi, Kim Mitchell, Mike Stern, etc.), and Ryo Miyachi (worked with Nir Felder, Evan Marien). 

My teaching philosophy is that making lessons as fun as possible is one of the most important things as a teacher. For beginner drummers, I start with showing them how to hold the drumsticks, foot placement, etc. and then proceed to teaching a versatile but simple drum beat and fill so they can start playing with music. For more developed drummers, we can start working on things such as advanced foot/hand techniques, advanced chops, hi-hat embellishments, or whatever the student would like to work on at that time.
