About
Hi there, I am a 30 year old musician and music teacher from the Toronto area in Ontario. Ive been teaching performing and recording music for about 15 years, in a variety of styles ranging from blues, rock, pop, funk, jazz, metal, R&B and more. I have taught both privately and in commercial stores, and have been the drummer for jazz quartets in Toronto and Peterborough, have played both drums and guitar in pop, rock, blues and metal contexts, and have recorded and been featured on albums, one of which is linked below. I have an excellent knowledge of music theory and the elements of music and a well trained ear. I continue to be a part of ongoing musical projects creatively and as a recording artist and performer, and have a great passion for the art of music, as well as an aptitude for communication, patience, and inspiring other around me to appreciate and learn music.
Teaching Style
I approach teaching with an openness and curiosity to understanding what each individual student is motivated and inspired by in music. I want to create an environment that rewards exploration and creativity, and meets students where they are on their journey. I think setting up a relationship and understanding between teacher and student that ensures that the beauty and enjoyment of music is just as important as being able to comprehend and execute the lesson and materials. I want to understand what inspires students about music, and plan my approach based around that, while also having strong principles surrounding what approaches I think work for people on a general level. If a student is a beginner and doesn't know where their inspiration or interests lie, then im confident that i can inspire them to discover it. I think a combination of learning the language of music theory, practicing mechanical exercises to remove the barrier between the imagination and the body, learning practical examples from written music, ear training through active listening and exploring the connection between music theory and our intuitions and feelings about how things sound are all aspects of what i will be teaching in my lessons. Thanks for listening.
