I'm a singer with experience teaching students of all ages how to learn to use their voice and feel confident in their skills and technique, whether it be for fun, for karaoke, for a choir, or for solo work.
From a young age, I've loved singing, making music, and helping teach others these skills! I have a Bachelor's of Music Education from Kansas State University (2020) with an emphasis in choral singing, where I was also selected by staff to become a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, a music specific honor society. I completed my student teaching in the spring of 2020, which introduced me to teaching online as we transitioned outside the classroom. After graduating, I taught a year of choir, solo music lessons, and music appreciation for students grades 7-12 at Syracuse Jr/Sr High School. In almost three years working with TakeLessons before moving to Lessonface, I have taught students of all ages and love working with teens and adults who are dedicated to learning a new skill!
My training in singing has included a variety of styles including contemporary Christian music, hymns, musical theater, and classical styles. I have experience singing in and education on pronouncing Latin, German, Italian, Spanish, and some French. If you have something you want to learn, whether it's your favorite style or a new one you're just trying out, I would love to help you explore that and expand your skill set.

Rachel is very friendly and personable. She's also very knowledgeable about singing and knows a lot about teaching a beginner like to me to sing and to read music. I look forward to lessons with her every week. :)

She is knowledgeable and patient with me even though I’m not the best singer.

Easy to log in, Rachel, the instructor was great!
Rachel was a true professional! We hired her for some lessons to help my daughter gain confidence for her school's talent show. Rachel just jumped right in and my daughter's singing really improved over the month. What a cool service to connect us to instructor's all over the country. Appreciate her expertise, her flexibility, and her kindness.
She is quite helpful and it is easy to work with her.
The first session went well. I was working on how to read music and Rachel was pleasant and patient with me. She gave me lots of stuff to work on before we meet again.
Rachal is great. My son Leo was reluctant to take lessons even though he wanted to audition for a musical theatre show. I convinced him to try a lesson with Rachel and he really enjoyed it and asked for more. She has been great working with him and has helped him a lot.
Rachel is a great teacher to my son Leo. She is very patient and flexible and makes the lesson a great experience and very helpful.

Rachel is pleasant and provides a great foundation to build music theory upon! She shares lessons to work through for homework and leaves you with an understanding of what to practice. It’s been super helpful & looking forward to more lessons. Definitely recommend ~
I learned from Rachel that I have improved alot in various ways
Rachel is very knowledgeable about all aspects of singing in the choir. She is very patient and attentive and she helped me sing through a few difficult pieces during the course of our lesson. Will continue to take singing lessons with her.
My daughter thoroughly enjoys her lessons with Rachel! Rachel is very talented and knowledgeable. She has taught my daughter new singing techniques and when the class is over, my daughter exclaims, "that was fun!" Thank you, Rachel for making singing enjoyable while at the same time providing valuable learning techniques.
Wow! Rachel W has exceeded our daughter's expectations. She is an excellent coach, talented, knowledgeable, a skilled professional and also very patient and encouraging. Rachel W is highly recommended!
Very patient and knowledgeable, my daughter had a lot of fun with Rachel and did not want her to leave after their time was up. Rachel makes singing fun while still teaching the proper singing technique.
Rated this class 5 stars.
Teaching Style
Vocal students will work with me to find their own sound and strengthen their voice. My goal is to help each student understand that they can be successful with the voice they have, in whatever genre they find interesting. We will focus on technique, building good habits, and identifying the individual strengths and abilities each person has while learning to branch out into new skills. I firmly believe everyone can sing, and with the wide variety of styles in the world, everyone should feel like they enjoy what they do and are confident in it.
Another focus I have in this is learning to read sheet music and basic music theory. If this is something you've been wanting to learn, either for singing or playing piano, I have taught a variety of people from pre-schoolers to elders. If you want to learn classical music of any kind, knowing how to read is essential, and something I really enjoy teaching! I can also help with beginning piano, so if you are a singer wanting to get that bit of experience so you can accompany yourself but not enough to play as a classical pianist, let me know.
A normal lesson with me begins with about 10 minutes of warming up and sight reading (if you're interested in that skill), followed by working on our current song. This can be classical, Christian/Gospel, pop, rock, folk- it's entirely up to your goals and what you want to learn. If we are working more on music theory, we will spend dedicated time to make sure you understand the concepts involved, and I always try to find sheet music of our chosen song to use for further examples and reading experience.
Curriculum
Usually my students find songs on their own to work with, but if you are interested in classical music, I highly recommend the following:
Standard Vocal Literature from Hal Leonard, in your range
28 Italian Songs and Arias, in your range
If you are interested in beginning piano, I recommend Alfred's Basic Piano Library
