About

Hello there!

My name is Ramiro Marziani. I am a Professional Guitarist and Music Teacher based in New York City. I have over 17 years of teaching and performance experience, and I hold a degree from Berklee College of Music (Summa Cum Laude).

Private instruction is something that I love and it fosters a deeper connection to music and to sharing. I teach Online and also in my Home Studio. My methodology is based around playing music from the start, to help you meet your goals, and develop a deeper personal interest and path to music an guitar. Having lived around the world, and a native speaker of English and Spanish, I have a diverse musical knowledge that allows me to be adaptable and flexible in many performance and teaching approaches.

Teaching Style

Teaching for me is about finding a balance. The way I approach a lesson consists of focusing solely on the students goals and aspirations and working on that, but also demonstrating yourself to be a good musician and teacher who your student trusts and receives inspiration from. That said, I like to find out and sometimes predict what students would like to do with the guitar based on what I see, and start from there. Every lesson, there are one or two new concepts, technical or theoretical, that I believe will get my student to her/his goal. There are also songs based on my students preferences, which we use as a source to learn things like technique, chords, scales, singing, and more, depending on my students' aspirations. I like to end lessons with a summary of goals for the week, short and long term, and a jam or play along to close that week's material and solidify the concepts.

Curriculum

I base all my teaching on all the different private lessons I've received over my 17+ years of playing and learning guitar with very different musicians. I started playing when I was 11, and I find that for any beginner, it's important to start with material that gets instant "musical" sound from the guitar. I believe this consists on working on basic chords which you can use to start singing songs, or learning some easy riffs or melodies that will have you playing music in a matter of a few weeks. Once you get more advanced, technical aspects like music theory, understanding what you already know and using that information creatively become more important in the lessons. For advanced players, the main idea is finding the strengths and weaknesses of the students, working on maintaining those strengths and slowly improving on the weaknesses with specific data, which may be technical or theoretical/mental.
