About

Roxanne McGahey loves to teach piano and theory. With over 30 years experience, many of her students have moved on to careers in the music field. With an A.Mus. from Western Ontario Conservatory of Music (piano pedagogy), and a B.Mus from Carleton University Roxanne has continued her musical study with many courses and masterclasses. As an Examiner (piano and theory) and Adjudicator  Roxanne has had the opportunity to help and develop many young musicians over the years.

Roxanne has prepared many students for piano and theory examinations (traditional and contemporary), festivals, and collage auditions as well as students that want to learn to play pop music.  All are welcome! Young and old!

Teaching Style

What is important for all students? To learn (of course) but ultimately to love playing the piano and to love coming to their music lessons. That's the overall goal! As a teacher, you must instill a love of music in every lesson, and have the students complete their lessons with a smile on their face.

Also, it is important to cover many areas in each lesson - for example some scales etc., ear development, and sight reading abilities.

Curriculum

Beginning with the Faber and Faber series is a great place to begin our musical journey. These books are easily accessible and provide a fantastic starting place. For students with a little more experience, then we can explore books that will expand their musical abilities and keep the student motivated.

Taking part in assessments (if desired)  is also an option and gives excellent feedback for the student, and I am very comfortable with preparing students for these.
