Teaching Style

My goal is to help students experience the joy and life enrichment of expressing themselves through music. I offer private one-on-one music lessons in a variety of subjects with an emphasis on creativity and personal growth to help students become better musicians, performers, and writers, whether as professionals or hobbyists. I teach all ages and levels and lesson plans are custom made to each student's unique interests.

I know that no two students are the same; therefore, I create unique lesson plans for each individual student based on their particular situation and interests. By using a "start where you are" approach, I am able to build on an individual's strengths and curiosity, while filling in the gaps to help each student grow into their own full potential. These are not cookie-cutter lessons, but live, one-on-one private lessons that are interactive and customized.

Ryan Jewell is a musician, composer, improvisor, performer and educator with 25 years of performance and teaching experience. Like many of us, he started out as a self-taught musician learning from records, books, watching live performances, and personal experimentation. His enthusiasm and curiosity soon turned to frustration when he reached the limitations of learning slowly on his own. This motivated him to seek out teachers and more experienced musicians from which to learn, and thus began the journey of being a lifelong student of music of all kinds. Out of high school he studied at Capital University Conservatory of Music, then went on to study independently with many private instructors to deepen his craft and satisfy his curiosity while working as a full-time musician. To this day he continues to study, practice, and play to learn new perspectives and grow as a professional musician, artist, and human being. These experiences in both formal and informal educational situations have given him a wide variety of methods that contribute to his versatile teaching style.
