Sachie Kobayashi
About
I am a composer and sound artist working internationally across contemporary music, multimedia performance, and sound design.
My work has been presented at international festivals and performed by professional ensembles, and I have extensive experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds, ranging from complete beginners to professional artists.
My teaching approach is practical, structured, and tailored to each student’s goals.
Whether you are learning composition, music production, music theory, or sound design, I focus on helping you develop skills that you can immediately apply to your own creative work.
In lessons, we typically combine three elements:
- Technical foundation — understanding harmony, rhythm, sound design, or production tools
- Creative development — composing, arranging, or designing sounds step by step
- Critical listening and feedback — learning how to refine and improve your work independently
I work with students in many areas, including:
- Composition (classical, contemporary, film, experimental)
- Music production (Ableton Live, Logic Pro, sound design)
- Music theory and harmony
- Creative workflow and project development
- Preparation for auditions, portfolios, or artistic projects
For beginners, I provide clear explanations and a supportive structure.
For advanced students and professionals, I offer detailed feedback, advanced techniques, and guidance on artistic direction.
My goal is not only to teach techniques, but to help students become independent creators who can continue developing their own voice.
Lessons are conducted online in English, French, or Japanese.
Teaching Style
I use a structured but flexible approach that combines technical training with creative exploration.
In each lesson, we work on practical skills such as composition, sound design, or music production, while also developing artistic thinking and listening skills.
I provide clear guidance, detailed feedback, and concrete steps for improvement.
My goal is to help students become independent creators who can continue developing their work beyond the lesson.
Curriculum
Teaching Method
My teaching method is structured, flexible, and tailored to each student’s individual goals.
I combine technical training with creative practice, so students develop both solid skills and their own artistic voice.
Lessons typically follow a step-by-step process:
- Foundation — understanding rhythm, harmony, sound, and musical structure
- Application — composing, producing, or analyzing real musical examples
- Creative development — creating original work and refining ideas through feedback
For beginners, I provide clear guidance and practical exercises to build confidence.
For intermediate and advanced students, lessons focus on deeper musical understanding, artistic direction, and professional-level feedback.
I also emphasize listening skills, problem-solving, and independent practice methods, so students can continue developing outside the lesson.
