About

Sam Goswell is a professional award-winning musician with specialties in drums, production, and education. He is known for his passionate approach to music, professional attitude, and strong work ethic. He is looking to share his passion and skills with his students.

Winning both the Drums Live III Groove Competition (presented by Rob Brown, Paul Brochu, Mark Kelso, and Long & McQuade) AND Stanton Moore Global Drumming Competition (presented by Stanton Moore) before finishing high school was just the start of Sam's professional journey in music. He shortly after began studying at the prestigious Humber College, known in North America for its well-rounded music program. Whilst there, Sam had the privilege of studying with internationally recognized drummers Larnell Lewis, Mark Kelso, Rosendo Chendy León Arocha, Steve Mancuso, and Bob McLaren.

Following his studies at Humber, Sam has embarked on a variety of musical ventures, having performed nationally with musical acts at various music festivals and venues, such as Ellevator (Indie Rock), Quincy Bullen (Jazz Fusion), Kris Barclay (Country), and Mackenzie Leigh Meyer (Country), as well as various performances with corporate pop bands with ONQ, Stereoflavour, and Red Soda Band. His most notable international experiences have been with New West (Pop) and Aysanabee (Alternative), both of which have offered performances and touring at various festivals around the world. Experiences have included performances at Austin City Limits (US), Festival D'Ete (Canada), Osheaga (Canada), Reading (England), Pukkelpop (Belgium), Sziget (Budapest), Lowlands (Netherlands), Rock En Seine (France), Soundrenaline (Jakarta), Reaperbahn (Germany), Viva Sounds (Sweden), Rifflandia (Canada), as well as tours that stretch across the USEurope, and Asia. Sam also had the opportunity to perform their hit song "Those Eyes" with New West on Jimmy Kimmel Live in 2023, with the song having almost one billion streams on Spotify alone. He has experience with a variety of musical genres in a live and recorded setting with various musical acts from around the world.

Beyond the drumset, Sam has embraced the production aspects of music. Having helped produce, write, record, and mix songs within the projects of Roz De La Cruz and Bassline, Sam has expanded his musical skills even more. With plans to push production and writing into his life more, Sam is constantly striving for excellence and always looking to refine and expand on his current musical abilities.

Teaching Style

I look to help push your journey forward by providing you with the tools and skillset needed to accomplish your creative musical goals. I look to incorporate a well rounded approach to drumming, focusing on technique to ensure a strong foundation to build off of. From there we'll devle into exercises that focus on your inner dynamicstiming, and subdivisions, culminating in a clear basis for groove, feel, and timing. From there I look to expand your understanding of how drums fit into a variety of musical contexts, as well as how to push your own creativity forward. By utilizing exercises that tackle multiple subjects at a time, you will have a solid foundation and understanding of how to play the drums within the modern day and age.

The lessons will generally be stuctured around how to create a practice routine by looking at a very simple process that involves: warming up, looking at your main focus, and cooling down.
