Samuel Obasa
About
I am Samuel Obasa, a passionate and dedicated music instructor and performing saxophonist with a strong commitment to helping students grow both technically and creatively. Today, I specialize in teaching alto saxophone, combining practical, hands-on learning with structured musical foundations to ensure my students develop confidence and real performance skills. My approach is results-driven, and I am proud that over 90% of my students achieve significant progress through active practice sessions and guided instrument application during lessons.
I have been teaching music professionally for the past two years and previously worked with Morning Salvation Academy, where I trained students in instrumental performance and music fundamentals. In addition to my teaching experience, I serve as the lead saxophonist at Morning Salvation Choir, where I perform regularly during services and special programs. I am also widely recognized in my community for organizing and performing at celebration events and gigs, bringing live instrumental music to weddings, church programs, and special occasions. I have been performing professionally for three years, gaining valuable stage experience that I bring directly into my lessons.
Academically, I hold a National Diploma in Marketing, which has strengthened my communication skills and ability to connect effectively with students from different backgrounds. Beyond the alto saxophone, I am also well-versed in piano, allowing me to guide students in understanding music theory, harmony, and accompaniment techniques. My goal is not just to teach students how to play an instrument but to help them become confident musicians who truly understand their craft.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is strongly rooted in practical learning because I believe music is best understood through active playing. From the very first lesson, students begin engaging directly with their instrument. I guide them step by step through tone production, fingering techniques, rhythm exercises, and real musical pieces so they can build confidence while developing proper technique. Practical application keeps lessons exciting and helps students see immediate progress.
At the same time, I place strong emphasis on music theory. I believe that understanding the “why” behind the music is just as important as knowing how to play it. I carefully explain foundational concepts such as scales, chords, key signatures, rhythm structure, and harmony in a way that is simple and relatable. By combining theory with hands-on practice, students not only learn how to perform pieces but also understand the structure and musical ideas behind them.
My goal is to produce well-rounded musicians who can both play skillfully and think musically. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level and learning pace, creating a supportive and encouraging environment where growth is consistent and enjoyable.
