Sara is the co-songwriter and lead guitarist of The Julie Ruin and the touring guitarist with Bikini Kill.

PRIVATE LESSONS:

* Sara teaches guitar from several angles - songs, patterns, etudes, new chords, scales, theory mixed with songs, improvisation etc. Students will get a variety of exercises and songs to work with.

* Learn the fundamentals and core of fretboard technique and guitar theory. This will help you build a solid foundation.

* Large library of educational resources and cross-reference from several books available. Sources gathered from twenty years of teaching music.

* As a HUGE music fan, Sara aims to guide you towards any musical style(s) and genres you are most interested in. All challenges are welcome!

* Specialization in adults learning an instrument for the first time, or taking up guitar again after many years off.

* STRONGLY encourage women (identified), girls, and non-binary students. I hope to offer an alternative style in a landscape of so many male YouTube guitar teachers.

* I insist on creating a safe space for all, and developed the type of lessons I wanted to have when I was growing up.

Sara Landeau is a professional lead guitarist, composer, and educator. She is an award-winning educator, holds an MFA in Sonic Arts from Brooklyn College School of Music, and is an ongoing music doctoral student. Sara is the co-songwriter and lead guitarist of The Julie Ruin on Hardly Art/SubPop Records and the touring guitarist with Bikini Kill (2023 - )

* ACTIVISM: Won 2015 Girls Rock Camp Teaching Excellence and Activist Award for 10 years of service. Founded, built, and facilitated Sara Landeau Studios in Brooklyn, Ny (2005-2019), with the mission statement to aid women and girls in guitar, drums, bass, and band lessons. Taught thousands of girls/women, with at least 10,000 hours of classroom time.

* MUSIC TECHNOLOGY: Pro Tools Certified. Audacity/ Logic. Finale/Sibelius/Musescore

* PUBLISHING: Featured musical performer and recording artist with dozens of songs/music on television, radio, and films, including a songs for Superbowl ads, Netflix and HBO series, and new media.

AGES 10 and up!

GUITAR LESSONS:  learn sight reading, tablature, rhythms & strums, fretboard theory,  song structures,  fingerpicking,  extended chord theory,  harmony,  inversions,  scales,  modes, lead playing, textures, soloing, music theory, time signatures, ergonomics aand proper hand technique.  Beginners and all ages are welcome!
