Sarah Huesman
About
Hi there! My name is Sarah Huesman and I am a professional cellist living in Miami, FL. I was born and raised in North Carolina and would describe myself has friendly, personable, easy-going, and patient. In high school I attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and have been seriously pursuing music ever since! I received my Bachelor of Music from the University of Miami (Florida not Ohio), Master in Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, and recently completed my Artist Diploma from the University of Miami. I am currently the cello teacher for the University of Miami Frost School of Music Preparatory Program and teach a few adult students privately on the side. I love meeting new people and especially love connecting through music. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn an instrument; it just takes practice, a good teacher, and time!
Teaching Style
My teaching experience cultivated in Miami, FL when I began teaching at the Community Arts Program in 2016. I taught young cellists for 3 years until I moved to Cincinnati, OH. During my 3 year employment with the Community Arts Program in Miami I also volunteered at the Mays Conservatory, where I taught cellists in the school orchestra program. In 2018 I moved to Cincinnati to pursue my Master in Music with well-known cellist and teacher Alan Rafferty. During this time I began teaching privately for Cincinnati Strings. When the pandemic hit in early 2020, all of my students in Cincinnati transitioned to Zoom lessons and I have been teaching them that way ever since. I teach students of all ages, as little as 4 and young as 70, and know how to cater to all learning styles. I am currently undergoing Suzuki training, and will be officially certified by September 1st, 2021.
Curriculum
My teaching method is all about problem solving, experimenting, and having fun. Playing the cello should feel good, and that is what I strive to teach all of my students.
