About
Hello! I’m Sarah, a harpist in LA, where I have recorded for film and pop music, among other projects.
I started out mostly self-taught on a small lever harp, and then on a pedal harp in my local youth orchestra, where I was principal harpist for five years. I was then awarded a scholarship for harp performance in college, to play in symphony orchestra and musical theater performances as principal.
I eventually undertook a Ph.D. program in Philosophy of Music at Ohio State University, but dropped out after a year to move to LA and pursue *doing* music instead of *thinking* about music. Here I was lucky enough to work as a studio assistant at Hans Zimmer’s studio for over a year, followed by an opportunity to record for David Fleming in his Emmy-winning score for Ron Howard’s 2024 documentary “Jim Henson: Idea Man” (Disney+). I have also recorded for Bleeding Fingers Music for several tracks for the Extreme Music library, and for Emmy-nominated composer Sara Barone for a confidential project. Another project on which I was invited to collaborate is Ilyeob Choo’s Splice sample pack “Echoes of Glass" (2025). I recorded again for David Fleming for “Eternity” (A24), which premiered in theaters in November 2025, and recently for Ichiro Suezawa and Adrian McKinnon at Warner Chappell Music for an upcoming release.
I feel very privileged to have had these exciting opportunities, with more in the works, and am eager to share what I’ve learned with you and introduce you to the limitless possibilities of making sounds with harp!
Teaching Style
My teaching philosophy is that students learn best when what they are already doing well is emphasized. Skill development is of course individual, but building confidence is key when learning something new. So I aim to use helping students notice small wins to motivate persistence to break through practice plateaus and achieve their goals. I also believe that playing what you actually like to hear, not just what is mandated in a curriculum, is important for both immediate gratification and long term success.
