About
Discover the captivating sounds of the Tar and Setar with an instructor whose passion for Persian classical music is matched only by his extensive teaching background. For over two and a half decades, I've had the privilege of guiding students through the beauty and complexity of these instruments, building upon a strong foundation laid by my esteemed mentors, Dariush Talaei, Keivan Saket, and Behdad Babaei. My approach focuses on personalized instruction, ensuring you develop a solid technique, musicality, and a deep appreciation for this rich cultural art form. Join me to not only learn to play, but to truly understand and connect with the soul of Persian music. Let's embark on this musical journey together!
Teaching Style
My teaching philosophy is built on a blend of tradition and personalized guidance, ensuring each student not only learns to play the Tar and Setar, but also develops a deep understanding and appreciation for Persian classical music.
I believe in starting with a strong foundation in technique and theory. We'll meticulously cover proper posture, hand positioning, and finger work, which are crucial for developing both sound production and preventing bad habits. Alongside practical exercises, I integrate essential music theory relevant to Persian classical music, helping you understand the underlying structure of the radif and different dastgahs.
However, my approach goes beyond just technical proficiency. I focus heavily on developing your musicality and ear training. We'll work on improvisational concepts, tahrir (vocal ornamentation translated to instrument), and rhythm, encouraging you to listen actively and express yourself through your instrument. I often use traditional melodies and gushehs as learning tools, breaking them down into manageable sections to build your repertoire organically.
Every student is unique, so I tailor my lessons to your individual pace, goals, and learning style. Whether you're a complete beginner or looking to refine your existing skills, I'll create a structured yet flexible curriculum that keeps you engaged and motivated. My aim is to foster a supportive and encouraging environment where you feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and ultimately, finding your own voice on the Tar or Setar.
