My name’s Sawyer! 

Welcome to my page! It’s great to have you checking into lessons. If you’re new to lessons or have been practicing music for a long time, I’d love to help you progress on your musical journey. I want to teach you because I know the value of finding an instructor who “gets you” and can work with you to help you reach your goals. I have the experience to customize music lessons to fit your learning style. The instruments I have taught include guitar, bass, piano and vocals. I’ve taught lessons to children, teens, & adults for over 13 years both independently and with institutions like Guitar Center and Brighter Minds Music. 

 
I took piano lessons from age 6 to 13. This built a great foundation of knowledge and helped me understand that complicated ideas could be broken down into achievable pieces. I added guitar lessons at 13, and graduated from McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul MN with a diploma in guitar performance in 2017. I would love to help you learn to play! In addition to teaching, I play shows in Minnesota and perform original music. I’ve had a residency at The Cabooze and have played a few times at an underground festival. I write, record, and sell my own music using Logic, a music recording software, and Bandcamp.

Fun Fact-
One non music related activity I enjoy is blacksmithing.

My teaching approach is laid back but grounded. I teach using a mix of questions and examples to help students achieve musical success through self discovery. Just as no two guitars sound the same I find that no two students learn in the same way. I take pride in ensuring each student is given a hand crafted lesson experience.
