About

I'm a musician based in Cape Town, South Africa who started out as a pianist and then migrated over to Bass Guitar.

I've been an industry professional for nearly twenty years and have performed locally and internationally with some fairly notable people such as Johnny Clegg, Jonathan Butler and Nils Landgren to name a few! I've been a part of some amazing Musical Theatre productions such as 'Jesus Christ Superstar' and 'Kinky Boots' touring locally and abroad as far as South Korea!

I love almost all kinds of music but am most comfortable teaching Jazz, Fusion, Afro-Jazz, Funk and some Southern African music genres such as Ghoema, Mbaqanga and Maskandi to name a few.

Teaching Style

I prefer a very informal manner of teaching but I do apply some pressure to students trying to always be sympathetic to their levels in terms of theoretical knowledge and instrument proficiency.

Basically I'll teach to the abilities of my students and will always choose to teach them a 'skill set' rather than getting them to copy me.

Curriculum

I've got a complete Electric Bass Curriculum which I established as part of my work at the University of Cape Town (South Africa) which includes ALL the fingerings for scales relative to Jazz Performance, Repertoire (original tracks & backtracks) with notated music scores.

Credentials & Affiliations

I hold a B. Mus (Jazz) degree in Music Performance and a Masters In Performance & Dissertation degree from the University of Cape Town.
I have taught at Stellenbosch Conservatory, Xulon Music Tech and Cape Music Institute. I am a founder member of the 'Little Giants Biggish Band' and am affiliated to most music education programmes in Cape Town.
