About

Sidharth Sarangi is a classical guitarist, pianist and composer from India.

Sidharth has won prizes at several national and international competitions, including first prize at the Global Guitar Gita International Guitar Festival and Competition, where he was awarded the Grand Prize. He has also received awards at the Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival and Competition, as well as various other national competitions.

In 2022, he became the first person from India to have been accepted to study guitar at the Royal College of Music in London.

Sidharth’s repertoire consists of eclectic and diverse pieces ranging from original arrangements of suites by Bach to modern music by composers such as Gary Ryan, Leo Brouwer, Pavel Steidl and Frederic Rzewski. His affinity for avant garde pieces is evident in his transcriptions and interpretations of pieces by modern composers.

Sidharth has performed extensively across India. Highlights include recitals at the India International Centre in New Delhi, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Mumbai, Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur, Bangalore International Centre, Satyajit Ray Auditorium (ICCR) in Calcutta, the Cottage Chamber Concert series in Mysore, Galeria de Belas Artes in Goa, etc. Sidharth's music has also been featured on prominent international platforms such as NPR Music. He was invited to perform on The Great American Folk Show where his performance was broadcast live on Prairie Public radio in North Dakota.

Beyond performance, Sidharth is actively involved in pedagogy, conducting workshops and masterclasses to promote the classical guitar repertoire among other guitarists and musicians.

Sidharth also composes and arranges music from time to time and has written pieces for the solo guitar and piano repertoire.

Sidharth is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in electronics engineering and enjoys swimming in his free time.

Teaching Style

I specialize in classical guitar and piano performance, and I am happy to teach students of all levels, from beginners taking their first steps to advanced players preparing for concerts or exams.

My teaching style is structured but adaptable. I focus on building a solid technical foundation while also encouraging musical expression and independent thinking. Every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to suit their pace, goals, and interests.

In lessons, we work on technique, tone, phrasing, and musical interpretation, always with an emphasis on understanding the music deeply, not just playing the notes. I also enjoy helping students explore a wide range of repertoire, from Baroque to contemporary music.

Whether you are learning for personal growth, exams, competitions, or professional goals, I aim to create a space where music feels meaningful, challenging, and enjoyable.

Curriculum

My approach to teaching is intentionally old school, and I believe this is where the deepest, most lasting musical growth comes from. I focus on discipline, detail, and developing a strong foundation—technically, musically, and intellectually. This method takes time, but it shapes students into thoughtful, expressive, and self-reliant musicians.

For classical guitar and piano, I emphasise tone production, control, phrasing, and a clear understanding of form and style. Lessons are structured around core technique and repertoire, with space for discussion, interpretation, and historical context. I also introduce theory and ear training as essential tools, not optional add-ons.

 Classical Guitar

  • ABRSM/Trinity graded repertoire and studies

  • Carcassi Guitar Method

  • Villa-Lobos – Études

🎹 Piano

  • Czerny – Selected Studies

  • Bach – Inventions, Sinfonias, and The Well-Tempered Clavier

  • Classical and Romantic repertoire: Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, and others

While I tailor material to each student, I don’t believe in shortcuts or watered-down methods. My goal is to train serious students who are willing to go deep, take their time, and grow into confident, independent musicians with something real to say.
