Teaching Style
I offer a personalized and enriching learning experience with over 20 years of experience behind the piano, and 10 years as a teacher. Whether you're a budding musician or an enthusiast looking to refine your skills, my comprehensive approach to music ranging from jazz, classical, film, world styles, and modern/contemporary caters to all levels.
Usually I like to find out what are some of the students' favourite songs, artists, composers, and/or desired goals as a pianist and musician, and then work towards executing these goals, all while maintaining the excitement, love and interest of music that brought you into lessons in the first place.
Lessons can involve: learning by visual instruction - copying finger placement and note patterns, learning to read fully notated sheet music, learning to interpret modern chord charts of popular songs adapted to your skill level, learning the fundamental approaches to jazz improvisation. diving into classical and jazz/contemporary theory, ear training, and scales and technical exercises.
No matter what prior experience or skill level a student may or may not have, I will ensure a fun journey into developing your musicianship, and skills as a pianist.
