About
Hi! I'm Spencer. I look forward to helping you progress your music skills.
I hold a Bachelor of Professional Studies from Brigham Young University-Idaho, where I was a member of the Rix Stix Percussion Ensemble and served as the coordinator for Department of Music live broadcasts. Over the years, I’ve developed my musicianship through performances, including at the Barrus Concert Hall in the Snow Building, a campus venue. Prior to university, I was an active member of a steel drum band for 3 years.
As a piano player with 18 years of experience, I’m passionate about fostering creativity and a love for music in my students. While I’m new to teaching music, I’ve honed my instructional skills by helping some of my 7 younger siblings develop their piano, drum, ukulele, and bass guitar abilities. I strive to create a learning environment that is enjoyable and sparks creativity, making music an accessible and rewarding experience for students of all ages.
Teaching Style
I believe the best way to learn music is by doing. In our lessons, I’ll demonstrate techniques and guide you step-by-step, but my primary focus is letting you play your instrument to develop your own feel and confidence. Whether it’s mastering a new piece, refining your technique, or exploring improvisation, you’ll have plenty of hands-on practice.
My goal is to create a comfortable, encouraging environment where mistakes are seen as opportunities to learn. I’ll provide clear instructions and constructive feedback while encouraging you to experiment and express yourself. By striking a balance between guidance and independent exploration, I help students develop both technical skills and a personal connection to their music.
With a focus on creativity and enjoyment, I aim to make each lesson a dynamic and engaging experience. You can expect to gain not only practical skills but also a deeper appreciation for music and the confidence to perform with joy and expression.
