About
Greetings! I am a pianist, opera singer and composer with a home-base in Charleston, SC. I love teaching beginners and giving them a wonderful foundation. I also enjoy working with advanced students discovering how to play or sing with orchestra or prepare for auditions. I believe in sound before sight music is an aural language.
I have been playing the piano since the age of 6 and had my first vocal performance at the age of 5. I spent much of my career singing with The Washington National Opera at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC (my hometown).
I perform professionally both regionally and Internationally and had my European opera debut in 1999.
I received my Bachelors degree in Music from St Marys College of Maryland (a public honors college) Graduate Studies at Cincinnati College Conservatory.
Teaching Style
I believe students learn by listening first, tone and technique before reading just as we do in our mother tongue or given language. We listen and play songs with our ears and add reading as the student is ready. I like to use games to re enforce concepts and always have the student set the pace.
We will learn to play by ear, read music and chord charts, this enables the student to learn more styles and play so many more pieces and songs that you like.
