About
Hey there! I’m a published songwriter, producer, and musician, with over 15 years of teaching experience working with day-one beginners to professional/working artists. I’ve also been a best-selling singing coach on another platform for 8 years, with over 65,000 students enrolled worldwide. I’m excited to now offer private instruction here on Lessonface!
Quick Bio:
- I founded and operated Strum Music School in Austin, TX for 9 years (2006 - 2015), where we educated thousands of students of all ages. I also trained many of my teachers to improve their teaching abilities.
- I’ve performed professionally for over 20 years - literally thousands of gigs, from the bar scene, to fronting bands for corporate events, to opening shows for world famous bands/artists. One of my personal faves was opening for A Flock of Seagulls. (“And I ran… I ran so far away…”)
- I’m a former voice student of the amazing Elizabeth Sabine - formerly of the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute of Los Angeles.
BTW… Have a question? Drop me a message! I’m happy to answer.
Teaching Style
I can honestly tell you, as someone who started with a natural ability to “carry a tune”, but was constantly frustrated with inconsistencies, a limited range, and occasional hoarseness… IT’S ALL IN LEARNING THE TECHNIQUES. It’s not impossible stuff to learn either. It just takes some time, practice and a teacher who can really communicate these techniques to you. If you’re interested in singing any sort of contemporary music, you need a coach who understands the style and the specific techniques used.
I’ll teach you how to breathe correctly, improve your technique & understanding of how the voice works, improve your tone, increase your range, train your ear, and build your confidence. Most importantly, we’ll talk about what makes YOUR voice distinctive. My philosophy is to make YOU sound better and not like everyone else.
Curriculum
“But singing lessons are SCARY!” I hear this one all the time, and I totally get it. One of my favorite quotes is: "Do something every day that scares you." Life is about challenging yourself! The scary part of singing IS one of the things I love about singing. In your lessons you'll learn to let go, to connect with what you're feeling, to trust yourself, to open up, to just go for it, etc... It's such a great feeling to just, let, go. But have no fear! I know how to build your confidence, and help you to face and overcome your fear of singing. The Psychology of singing is so important, and it’s something we’ll talk about regularly in your lessons.
